For the Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) of the Boston Bar Association’s 25th Anniversary Annual, we employed an old typewriter to create large, type-only graphics—and to tell a story told by VLP clients and constituents in their own words. The technique evoked both authenticity and the passage of time (while also keeping costs down!). Retired VLP Executive Director Meg Connolly told us we had “created a silk purse from a sow’s ear.”
